Top Wrestling Entrance Themes

I think I may have done something similar to this before, but y’know what?  I’ll do it again!

In professional wrestling (nee Sportz Entertainment), the music heralding a wrestler’s entrance into the arena for a match or interview is crucial to set the proper tone.  If someone came in to a high-energy Metallica rock song, you’d get one impression of them, as opposed to if they entered to a Frank Sinatra ballad.

So I present to you this Top 10 List of the Wrestling Entrance Themes!  They are judged on the following characteristics:

– Reactiveness: Does the music make you feel an emotion?  Excitement, fear, etc.

– Coolness: Does the piece just have a unique, cool spin?

– Longevity: If it lasted for a long period of time, it did so for a reason.

– Success: On a lower level, the success of the wrestler can help make a theme awesome.

All set?  Let’s roll.

#10 – Randy Orton (Mercy Drive’s “Burn In My Light”) – WWE – Sweet song for an arrogant, rising star.

#9 – Dusty Rhodes (“Common Man”) – WWE – You want to dance EVERYTIME you hear this, don’t you?

#8 –  Jeff Jarrett (“King of the Mountain) – TNA – From the opening notes, you just HATE this prick.

#7 – Goldberg – WCW/WWE – These had slight differences but were close enough.  Amazing.

#6 – Macho Man Randy Savage (“Pomp and Circumstance”) – WWE/WCW – Can’t find a good version of it, but here’s something.

#5 – Ultimate Warrior (“Unstable”) – WWE – Sheer energy.  The forerunner of modern themes that defined the character.

#4 – Ted DiBiase (“Money”) – WWE – Just perfect.

#3 – Edge (“Metalingus” by Alter Bridge) – WWE – Amazing, amazing song.  Perfect for the character.

#2 – Sandman (“Enter Sandman” by Metallica) – ECW – This clip is from a WWE show, but this entrance is ALL ECW.

#1 Hulk Hogan (“Real American” by Rick Derringer) – WWE – Simply the best.  For over 20 years.

More Hulk Hogan!

Wow…I had no idea my original Hulk Hogan post would be so popular!

So without further ado, let’s take a look at some highlights from the Hulkster’s career!

– Defeating the Iron Sheik for his first WWF/WWE championship:

– A musical tribute to his Wrestlemania III match vs. Andre the Giant (the most famous match of all time, to that point–and maybe still to this day!):

– Classic Wrestlemania V promo before his match with Macho Man Randy Savage:

– Hogan/Ultimate Warrior vs. Mr. Perfect/The Genius on a Saturday Night’s Main Event:

– And following that set-up, here are clips of the Wrestlemania VI main event, between Hogan and the Warrior:

The Undertaker defeated Hogan at Survivor Series to win the championship.  That couldn’t stand, so a few days later, Hogan reclaimed his belt at This Tuesday in Texas:

That’s all for now…we’ll pick up where we left off sometime soon…keep checking back!

Ultimate 1980s Cartoon Themes

OK, in honor of President’s Day here in the US, I’ve decided to do something unprecedented: I am finding my Top 10 80s Child Cartoon theme songs (Note: not all of these shows aired exclusively in the 1980s, but they are shows “children of the ’80s” will always cherish).  Also, please note, this is a personal list, so girly favorites may not be included.  Feel free to ream me out about how My Little Pony had the best theme.  Confession: Five-year-old me had quite a crush on Jem:

Ok, now on with the list!

Let the debate begin!

Hulk Hogan – Real American!

I realized that I haven’t really had a classic WWF/WWE posting in like a week, and that is WAY too long!

Short and sweet, our subject today is theme songs for this man right here:

First up, from the movie that really set the Hulkster on the path to mainstream superstardom, Rocky III, here is Survivor and “Eye of the Tiger:”

And how about the most recognizable wrestling theme song of all time?  It’s “Real American” by Rick Derringer:

I promise, you will have both of these stuck in your head for a long, long time.  Thank me later 🙂

And let’s wrap up our musical odyssey by checking in with…Jimi Hendrix?  That’s right!  When Hogan was a bad guy (NWO-era) and upon his return to WWE, he used Jimi’s “Voodoo Chile” as his entrance theme!  How ’bout some highlights?

And there ya have it.  Fight for the rights of every man.
